Welcome to Assisi Centre Aged Care, Melbourne’s foremost aged care services provider catering for the Italian community.
Assisi Centre Incorporated, operating as Assisi Centre Aged Care, was established to provide low and high level care in an exclusive Italian environment, where residents can converse in Italian, enjoy home-style food, follow their strong religious tradition and remain close to their families.
In the late 1980’s, a group of influential and committed members of Melbourne’s Italian community decided to bring together the resources of the Italian community and government to provide suitable aged care services and facilities to cope with the growing number of frail aged people of Italian background and descent in Melbourne, such as those who migrated to Australia in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s in search of a better life. Through their enterprising spirit and hard work, they achieved a great deal, making significant contributions to both Australia’s economy and society.
Assisi Centre Inc. is our expression of public gratitude and respect for these remarkable people ,who have contributed immensely to the fabric of Australian society and its quality of life. Assisi Centre Aged Care is owned and operated by Assisi Centre Inc. with assistance from the Commonwealth Government, sponsors and the public, especially the Italian Community.
The Assisi Centre is nestled in a picturesque and secluded enclave in Rosanna, centred in 4.32 hectares of expansive gardens in what was previously the old Sisters of Mercy Training Convent built in the 1920’s.
Assisi Centre Aged Care is a 120-bed ‘ageing-in-place’ residential aged care home with respite care ability as well. The Assisi Centre itself is also home to a number of clubs and Italian regional associations, and the Co.As.It day care centre. All these organisations help maintain that sense of ‘belonging ‘within the community that is so essential for the care and dignity of the elderly.
